Taking photos of reluctant family members can be its own kind of challenge. My niece and nephew are usually my most willing practice subjects. Learning to photograph portraits through lighting by replicating set-ups I have seen a thousand times on photoshoot sets, has been a fun and exciting challenge. A photographer I work with once told me that photography is the study of light. Learning how light changes what, who and how we see has been fun.
